If you guessed Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen...you're right. Although I did hear some good guesses from people.
Alas, the Olsen twins (who now what to be known by their names) were the first to profit off of their "real" life celebrity.
If you had a television or a younger sibling during the late 1980s/early 1990s you would remember their empire (estimated worth today: $1 BILLION) starting with their straight to video releases. A favourite in the Rodger household was "To Grandmother's House We Go" ("No snow for Christmas? What a rip off!").
Here is a picture from when the Rodger sisters made the long overdue pilgrimage to MuchMusic last August to see the famed Olsen twins (oops, sorry Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen) make a rare public appearance.
Highlights of our time in the MuchMusic Environment you ask? Well, from what I remember we were surrounded by tweens in Uggs and big sunglasses.
My favourite question that was asked by an audience member: "What charities do you guys support?" (Note: My new found appreciation for the tweens in Uggs).
The answer?: "Ummmmm....(2 minute pause as they conference with one another)...we don't like to talk about our charitable donations."
My response?: That's such crap. As though letting a bunch of tweens in on why they donate would suddenly be met with a rash of young people "giving" their cash to those in need instead of buying their Wal-Mart products...Oh, now I get it.
Anyway the seeing of MK and Ashley certainly brought the Rodger girls obsession full circle. And when I say obsession, I'm not kidding. In our house we used to tell time by "Michelles", 2 more "Michelles" until bedtime!!
Note: Michelle was the character's name that MK and Ashley Olsen played on the ever popular Full House. Which if you watch it today, you realize how lame it really was.
