Super Bowl Commercials...A Response

Last weekend the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts in the one of the biggest sports events in the world- the Super Bowl.

Part of the popularity has been the emergence of the bizarre competition for the best (and most expensive) commercial. It's a curious thing when there is an audience for the Super Bowl just for the commercials.

The commercials are often filled with special effects, celebrities, sometimes animals (anyone remember the beer frogs or mustangs?) and hilarious (to some!) jokes.

This year there were a few commercials that were interesting. The first being a commercial with Tim Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winner (for those of you not in the know, this is given to the best college football player in the US). Tebow's commercial had his mom in it, which is not all that unusual for a Super Bowl commercial (remember those Chunky soup commercials with the good NFL mommies heating up soup?). But the odd piece of it was that it was a commercial for "Focus on the Family" the right wing family group. The message was not as explicit as we thought it was going to be, but the it was there. Had Tebow's mother had an abortion the world would have been deprived of his talents with the Gators. What was ignored was that Tebow was born in Manila, Philippines where Tebow's mom wouldn't have even had the option as safe, legal abortions are not, nor ever have been, offered in that country.

But one of the most ridiculous commercials came from Dodge. I'm not even going to post it...but the gist of it is a bunch of dead eyed guys staring into the camera as the voice over extols all of the 'oppressive' things men have to put up with from their partners. And the Dodge vehicle is his escape, so back off bitch.

This is a response to this commercial (youtube it if your curious to see the original), and it made me smile!

New Blog To Read!

Alrighty, this campaign down South is sometimes annoying and "vicious circle" often comes to mind when I think about it, but-

I just found a really cool blog.

It's called "Margaret and Helen". They are two 82 year young women who are Obama supporters and have learned how to blog from one of their grandsons!

How awesome is that?

Their blog topics range from the overused "Bush-shit" to the clever "Maverick My Ass" to the very hilarious "The Straight Talk Express Just Drove Off the Bridge to Nowhere".

Enjoy this blog, it was sent to me from a friend- very cool :-)

And their photo of them in their scooters proves that age knows no limit- so Mary, get ready to blog!

Tina vs. Sarah

Here's the word-for-word, side by side comparison of Tina Fey impersonating Sarah Palin- using Palin's own words... :-)

It's Late, I'm exhausted and This Is Hilarious!

With all the who-ha about the upcoming US presidential election, this photo made me laugh.

I'm slightly befuddled at how the pregnant teen is dealing with her mom's bid for the VP position...the whole situation is definitely bizarre.

I wonder what the conversation was in the Palin family was last week before the announcement was made...

"Well family, I'm being named as John McCain's running mate."

"But Mom, I'm pregnant and 17 years old! Won't that be a problem? Won't people make horrible assumptions, jokes and parodied movie posters about me?"

"Oh, sure they will. But I've only been Governor of Alaska for 20 months and I'm currently under investigation for my ethics...when I am I going to get this opportunity again? Never. When will you get pregnant again? The chances are actually really good! To the campaign bus!"

18 DAYS TO GO!

When I was a kid, my mom gave me a code word.

She would say, "If someone tells you that mommy and daddy are in trouble, and they ask you to come with them, if they don't have the code you do not go with them! No code, no go!" And she would make up a little song, "No code, no go! No coooooode no go-o-o-o-o!"

Did any of you have a code word? (someone in the audience raises their hand) You really did? What was your code? (audience member says, "Apple Bottom") Apple bottom?

God forbid something should happen to your parents! Some guy would come up to you and say, "I'm sorry, you have to come with me. Your parents are dead. APPLE BOTTOM. I AM A GOOD MAN." My mom wasn't as smart her's was "Hey kid want some candy?"

Juno (Possibly the next Little Miss Sunshine?)

Well, I stumbled across this movie trailer and feel compelled to share it.

It's the story of a young girl who finds herself pregnant.

And the father?

Michael "Arrested Development/Superbad" Cera.

Sooo freaking hilarious.

Besides, Juno is played by the young woman who was in the last X-Men movies, whom I believe my sister, Maggie has a connection to.

Even more reason to check it out December 14th.

I'll even overlook that Jennifer "crappy films" Garner is in it.

David Letterman 1 Paris Hilton 0

BHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

David Letterman took only 8 minutes and 47 seconds to bring down the high and mighty Paris Hilton.

Probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Classic.

Should We Even Be Surprised?

Hey all. So last night they crowned another irrelevant beauty queen.

This video is making the rounds...Miss Teen South Carolina answering a question.

Did she even listen?!?

Check it out and have a good Saturday laugh.

Sigh.

I went to the Simpsons Movie website and loaded in a picture of me.
This is what was spit out.
I know certain people don't see the cultural necessity of The Simpsons....but I think it's pretty good.

Another Fantastic Cancelled TV Show

Here's another of my favourite shows.

Why is it that all my favourite shows are the cancelled ones?

"Arrested Development" was another show that was too smart for its time. And incredibly funny. You can find a whole bunch of its three seasons on YouTube.com - it's hilarious.

For those of you who don't know about this show it follows the story of an extremely hilarious family. There's no other word for them.

You can catch reruns on CBC at 5:00pm (I believe).

And even my Mom would like it. Even though one of the characters is an aspiring (yet horrible) magician.

I think I'm drawn to cancelled TV shows because I have a fear of commitment.

And here's a tribute to Season 2...because it's just damn funny.

And I need funny after today.

I was in Sarnia today, at the Bayside Mall. When did that place turn into such a hole? I remember going there as a young girl. Granted, it wasn't much then but it was at least a decent place to hang out. I wouldn't let my grandma hang out there now. It's filled with social services (way to marginalize all the poor in Sarnia Ministry of Social Services!) and crappy stores filled with useless shit that belongs in a landfill...but I guess the Bayside Mall is close enough.

Funny Friday

Hey All,

I'm feeling shitty tonight and the one thing that usually makes me feel better is SNL.

Especially when they make fun of Oprah.

My Most Favourite Show. Ever.

Ok, so one of my most favourite television shows is 'Dead Like Me'.

If you haven't caught it, it's for good reason.

It was on Showtime for only two awkward seasons. They are running the reruns on Bravo, so catch it if you can.

'Dead Like Me' is a dark comedy...just the way I like them. Because I'm uncomfortable with drama.

DLM follows the story of grim reapers, our protagonist being George, an 18 year old who was killed by a toilet seat falling from a Russian space station.

I recently got the entire series on DVD and I'm loving it.

I couldn't decide what clip to share, so here's a trailer of the first season, I'll put more up if I think they're worthy.

P.S. The next television show that gets to stand along side DLM for being way before it's time is 'Firefly'. More on that later.

Enjoy!

ONE MORE DAY TO GO!! GAH!

Ok...we have ONE more day until we are going to see Jon Stewart at the Niagara casino...

I am so excited.

I can barely contain myself.

And I know you're itching for another Jon Stewart fact:

He is one of the only people who can go on the Bill O'Reilly show "The O'Reilly Factor" and come out looking like a smart person. Bill O'Reilly can't even come out of that show looking smart.

Enjoy.

I Promise This Is The Last Video For Today

Ok, this was also sent to me...and since I just learned how to embed these wonderful videos I thought I should share.

I couldn't stop laughing.

It. Is. Hilarious.

Especially if Dakota Fanning rubs you the wrong way.

I know she's twelve, but seriously. Come on.
