What Do You Think The Expression On Annie's Face Is Saying?

SOA's Best New Artist?
A picture that Annie took in the gym at St. Anne's Church in Detroit, MI...Falon picked up a guitar and tried (unsuccessfully) to serenade the hippies in the room....unfortunately people were so hungry they couldn't hear anything.
Soon after Falon could be seen eating plain basmati rice and bread until we rescued her with pizza pockets.

A Short Political Break

Alrighty, just stumbled across this when I saw in the Freeps that Rick Mercer visited London yesterday.
Check out his blog and "endorsement" of Dianne Haskett for the Conservative Party in the London by-election.
Hilarious, and true.
Dad and I will be checking out a taping of The Mercer Report a week from Friday...yea!

The Three Amigas At The Fence
Lots of Grannies
Tons of Boy Scouts
One of the interesting things about this year was the sheer amount of cops and soldiers this year. This year the military erected a third fence, confining us only to the street. This didn't let us see the 16 people jump over the fence and be arrested.
Another thing that was new was the amout of military personnel behind each fence. I counted 11 soldiers in full camo gear watching us.
I just waved the peace sign...using 2 fingers.

A Warning To Carollers In Airports

Consider this a warning.
I just saw a new Christmas commercial (yes, it's that time of year again) where a mother and two children are stuck at the airport, delayed for a flight.
In the midst of this dreary wait, the mother pulls out the crappy Hallmark "gift" and then turns it on. And plays Jingle Bells.
Let me make myself perfectly clear.
If anyone ever decides to actually do this when I'm waiting for a delayed flight in a high traffic time period I will take that sweat shop made Hallmark piece of crap and hit you with it. Repeatedly. Seriously, Frosty's carrot nose will be embedded in your ass like an American jounalist in Baghdad.
Just so you're all warned.

Question of the Day: What Is That Smell?

Alright, just got back from the city of Toronto where Dad, Annie, her friend Christy, and I went to the annual Canadian Royal Winter Fair!
Yes, late last night Dad and I decided that it was a perfect day to assault our noses with the sweet, sweet smell of agricultural victory.
We saw horses, and almost gave Annie an asthma attack when walking up to see the fancy horse stables. We saw the baby chicks, the alpacas, llamas, sheep, and goats. We even stopped around some of the booths to let Annie and Christy do some shopping. However, since the clothing being sold was reserved for country folk, there wasn't much to buy.
We did see one animal group which I will have to add to my list of animals that I hate: the cow.
I know, why is it that certain animals want to see me lying on the ground in pain?
When we were walking around the cow pavillion at the CNE I was almost run over by a very large cow, followed by another very large cow. Seriously, run over. It practically ran into me. Maybe this is some bovine retribution for the delicious sirloin steak I had last night...
So, for those of you keeping score the animals that I hate are:
- Chipmunks
- Squirrels
- Cows

I Hate This Man
I Love This Woman

Alright, I just got off the phone with this woman, the amazing Eva Olsson, Holocaust Survivor.
She's like my very own Jewish grandmother.
She rocks and is truly inspirational...and the most exciting part? As of today (and if the planning, travel and cost all work out) I, along with 20 teachers, will be travelling to Auschwitz with Mrs. Olsson. She hasn't been back to the concentration camp since her release from Auschwitz during WWII.

An Update

Hello All,
Just thought I'd give you all an update on my crazy, busy life...
What's new, you might ask? Well, not a whole lot...still working away at the Gen. R. Dallaire Genocide Institute, and still having a good time.
Dad returned from his scotch filled tour of Scotland with Papa, Kevin and Bubbles, and from the pictures it looks like they had a merry old time in Scotland. In addition to drinking copious amounts of alcohol they did devote some time to finding our Scottish roots. It seems our ancestors, the MacIntosh-es, were a violent clan. Besides that it seems that the matriarch of our family was a general. Annie and I will have to keep this in mind when we travel to the SOA Protest in two weeks. However, it appears that the skills of the MacIntosh clan leave something to be desired. This meaning our clan was virtually (I say virtually because someone had to have survived to travel to Canada) were wiped out in, I kid you not, a massacre. That's right, my family in ancient times, were massacred. And even worse than that, their demise was the result of us following another clan into battle. A hard lesson to learn about being a follower.
Other than that the parents went off to Montreal, came back and then Mom went out to the East Coast for a conference and to see Mags.
Annie is spending longer chunks of time on the farm, oops, I mean University of Guelph.
And I'm getting ready to go off to Toronto next week to start preparations for the 75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Famine (2007), when we plan to hold a scholarly conference. Very exciting, if forced famine and Stalin float your boat.
Other than that there is the very exciting trip to SOA that is coming up. Annie will be joining our group this year as we travel to Columbus, Georgia for the big protest. I think the most amazing thing about this year's trip is that people are horrified to learn Annie's going, but there's virtually no concern pour moi. I'll chalk that up to my experience and ability to protest and not to the fact that people like Annie better. Right, Grandma?
p.s. The above picture is of a singer I'm feeling at the moment, K.T. Tunstall, from Scotland!

She's Trying To Redeem Herself

Yes, Oprah "The Saint" Winfrey is speaking out on behalf of Holocaust Education.
Anyone speaking out about this topic is important...let's just hope that Holocaust Education doesn't become the next celebrity fad in "What To Endorse For My Own Purposes Weekly".
We all remember what happened after Live 8...African debt miraculously cleared! Right? I only expect that this happened because no more celebrity are touting debt relief. That must mean that they were successful.
Right?
Reasons Why I Dislike Oprah
1. The Interrupter: Has anyone noticed that when Oprah asks a question, she answers it? See her interview herself in the presence of movie stars...
2. Mama Oprah: Oprah as the Second Coming in Africa is another thing that ticks me off. I can appreciate her donating her millions (very responsible), however I somehow get a sleazy feeling when she uses her show as a platform to demonstrate her generosity. There is the argument that she is doing this to show off a cause, or model responsible billionaire behaviour, but I somehow feel as though her attempts are insulting to my intelligence. How is it that children in rural Angola know who Oprah is? Why is it they run towards her? And if they don't run towards her and cry in her arms, why do we feel as though they are being ungrateful? Something about her aid work leaves me feel as though she wants to be sainted...
3. The Homophobe: In an attempt to appeal to the demeanour of middle America and the ever important soccer mom contigent Oprah explains away homosexuality in a manner that makes everyone love her (except those with brains). So she can say it's nature for those who are know homosexuality is something you are born as, and that it's part CHOICE, for those who are homo-prejudice. Does she really subscribe to this? I have no idea, but the mere fact that she believes that homosexuality is a duality of nature and nuture leaves me to believe that her desire to be loved by all has completely consumed her.
4. Rachael Ray: Why? Why? Why does this woman now have her own show? Why couldn't Oprah leave well enough alone. Yes, she does have a few good ideas, but let's not go over board. Look for a future post about why I dislike her.
5. The Superior Friendship: I can appreciate that Oprah has a long last friendship with Gail King, that's great, fabulous, everyone needs a BFF. But I resent the implication that Oprah and Gail's friendship is superior to any other relationship. It's incredibly irritating when I have to hear about how no one can ever have as close a relationship as she and Gail...believe it or not there are other women who are close with their friends. I refuse to worship your ability to be a best friend.
6. The Hour Long Commercial: I know that a talk show is a medium for people to promote their projects to earn money. Sometimes these projects are themselves (which is the only reason there is to explain why the Hilton sisters were on her show). But I draw the line at the "Favourite Things" episodes she has. Not only does she have an entire show that is one big commerical for useless gadgets, the materialism is so palpable that every time she does one of these shows you can hear viewers at home salivate over chocolate covered cookies and cashmere slippers.
7. The Oprah Audience: I hate them. I blame her. I heard one audience member say that going to the Oprah show is a religious experience. I don't know how to react to that. As well, they seem to be on some sort of upper when they're in the audience. The jump, scream, turn around and act like complete morons. It's ridiculous, and whenever I see these audience members I have the distinct desire to slap them silly and tell them to calm down.
8. Dr. Phil: Thank you, Oprah for inflicting this bully on the rest of the world. It's nice to know that we can be humiliated by the good Doctor with only a small email to his show. I appreciate his mask of "therapy in your hometown" at the end of every segment. Those bills must be getting extreme, eh? I appreciate getting dieting advice from a man who doesn't exactly follow them himself, very motivating.
9. Nobel Prize Accessory: Has anyone else notice Oprah's constant appearance at the Nobel Prize Ceremony? WTF? Why is it that every winner is given the trophy, the money and a photo op with Oprah? That's crap. Her hanging-on is annoying, especially with those who do actual good work. Wangari Maathai looked like she wanted to club the woman.
10. Cover Girl: Guess whose on the cover of the O Magazine this month? Last month? Next month? Yeah, Oprah. We get it, you have a magazine. Fantastic, please let's move on.
11. Presidential Candidate: If Oprah ever actually runs for president and wins, I will go insane. What's with the belief that she is the freakin' next best thing to JFK? COME ON. She knows how to get people to like her. That's her major talent. That's all, no political science, no economics...she'd be taking Kim Jong Il to the day spa for treatments while negotiating Middle East peace by her latest book club selection ("Edward Said is a god!!"). Meanwhile she'd send every household in America brand new towels because they: "Make you feel like a brand new woman!".
12. Angel Street: A few months ago I caught the tail end of an episode of Oprah when she built a street in Houston for Katrina Hurricane survivors. Now I can appreciate that she's helping out folks who have lost everything because of a few dumbasses in their nations' capital, but again, I got a creepy feeling from watching the show. Again the subtext of: Oprah is a saint, rather than these people are resiliant and strong was the message I was getting. Sigh.
Alright, maybe some of my reasons to dislike this woman are ridiculous, but these are my reasons. But the bottom line is, Oprah has a ton of cash and she didn't make it being a beautiful soul. The reason we watched her in the eighties and early nineties was because she was the queen of daytime sleeze. Now, with her newfound inner peace at a very calculated time, I dry heave.

A Game That I Hate
I'm working with a team of 7 others, mostly teenagers with a few young twenty year olds, like myself.
Most of them are in high school and they're playing that game...you know, the one where you find out the other person goes to another high school and to prove your popularity you start naming off people you know who go to their high school.
Example:
Teen 1: Where do you go to school?
Teen2: So-and-So High School.
Teen 1: Do you know John Smith?
Teen 2: No.
Teen 1: Do you know Kate Baker?
Teen 2: No.
Teen 1: Do you know Emily Jones?
Teen 2: Yeah.
The conversation never really goes anywhere. It's just an attempt to prove the other person's popularity.
Sigh. Five more days of this...hopefully I'll survive.

Book De-Tour

Has anyone heard of this book, "The Alphabet of Manliness"?
Well, it's number one on the New York Times Bestseller's List.
Can anyone guess what it's about? If you guessed how to be a real man, your right on the money. And in this case how to be a real man includes bottling up your feelings, only playing "man" sports and being a big "man" and using words like chairman instead of chairperson.
Because really, where do women get off thinking they can be in charge?
This is friggin' fantastic.
One small step for closeted homophobes every, one giant step back for civilization.

Wolverine Is My Hero
Build A Freakin' Bear
Sigh.Has anyone heard of "Build A Bear"? This bizarre store where people pick their bear (unstuffed), stuff it (see left), dress it, name it, etc., etc.
Annie, Krista and I did this for Ashley's birthday.
It took almost 1 1/4 of an hour.
It was ridiculous.
Besides that, it is located in the mall.
At least Ashley liked it. I'm never going back.

Brigden Fair

Yes, we got to the fair again this year!
Sunday the family made the trek to Bridgen for the fair! Very exciting!
We went with Ashley and she had a great time. We had fabulous weather, sunny and warm. Although I remember why I liked the crappy weather better for the Brigden fair, less people around. But it was fun to see all the people carrying around the useless four feet stuffed animals that collect dust.
We saw the giant pumpkins, prize winning muffins, had a pickle on a stick.
And we coaxed Ashley into the barns to see the minature horses, cows, rabbits, and baby pigs!
A successful trip, to say the least.
Lots of Pies

With the past celebration of Thanksgiving (Andrea's favourite holiday) I decided to roll up my sleeves and contribute to the dessert portion of our annual day of gluttony.
I decided to bake pies (part of my domesticating).
I really didn't give this enough thought, I was in the kitchen all day long. Literally all day, from 10am to 8pm.
And I only made three pies.
But they were delicious.

Crazy Little Animals

Yes, it might surprise you all, but last week I was attacked by a squirrel. Those rat like creatures are becoming more and more familiar with people, and I DON'T like it.
Last week I was taking garbage out to the garbage "hut" at the office (Gen. R. Dallaire Genocide Instiute). We opened the door and saw a squirrel getting out of the hut. I throw my bag of garbage in the hut and the squirrel FLIES out at my head. I narrowly escaped a nasty scrap with a squirrel. Dammit.
It sounds innocent, but I was terrified!! Imagine one of those things coming out, pardon me, FLYING out at your head. Not cool.
Then to top it off I find out that there's a group of crazy Londoners who are trying to make the black squirrel our OFFICIAL MASCOT.
Because of a traumatizing event when I was a toddler, I have had a grudge with the chipmunk (a chipmunk mistook my toddler toe for a peanut). But it seems now that it has to expand to include squirrels. I know that Helen, my squirrel loving pal will hate me for a short time, but you'll all have to live with this.
Because of this, I can never take the garbage out again.

Countdown Is On!!!!
I Took It, Did You?

Thursday night was the annual "Take Back the Night" festivities at Peace Park here in London, Ontario.
There was a great turn out and a great speaker this year (as opposed to last year's speaker who was severely unmotivating) from the Sexual Assualt Centre.
The march went on successfully this year, many people watching were supportive and respectful (except for the couple of cars who tried to run us over).
As we passed the corner of Wellington St. and Dundas St. we were greeted by a group of men (as they aren't permitted to walk) with a sign that read "Men Against Violence Against Women", very heartwarming to see.
This year's festivities only highlighted by the fact that I didn't get burned by my vigil candle...namely because I didn't get one.
All in all, a successful evening!!

And Another Cycle Begins...

I swear, my next post won't be about reality television...but I feel the need to mention the beginning of "America's Next Top Model: Cycle 7"!
Yes, it's time for another 14 young women to move into the ANTM house and compete for the "fabulous prizes" that are bestowed upon the winner.
Yes, the show is hokey and Tyra Banks' feeble attempt to be the next Oprah is mildly irritating, but you can't deny how this show gets under your skin...and before you know it, you're as addicted like a supermodel to blow.
This season appears to be interesting...especially with the fact that it seems that almost every girl participating has a sob story (could that have been a requirement to audition?). We have the girl who beat cervical cancer, the girl who was in a plane crash, the girl who grew up in foster care then moved on to become *sniff* homecoming queen and the creepy twins.
Yes, there are twins on this cycle...very interesting...beyond that we have the regular stuff. Fighting, diva attitudes and tears already.
One the first episode we had the weeding out of the 60 girls down to 20...then the twenty girls went on to do their first shoot- a tasteful nude shoot...
A message from me: If you are going onto ANTM...you'd better be comfy taking off your clothes and doing a nude shoot. Nude shoots are inevitable on ANTM...get over it. Although we do get to get rid of the boring people (this was the point that the Republican women are kicked off).
From here we picked the 14...and move into the house, where the real drama happens. People fighting over beds, getting extremely messy and complaining about bossy people. Do they not get that they are put in a house together with no television, no Internet, no cell phones and cameras everywhere? Drama is helped along the way in this house.
At the first photo shoot was fairly interesting, although we did get to see some diva behaviour (interesting since the photoshoot was about model stereotypes...like diva behaviour).
At the first eliminations we again had lots of drama and tears. No test this week, I'm assuming because of the sheer number of them.
The sneak peak for next week was interesting. It seems that next week they will be having the ever important makeover show, where each girl gets a new look. This always includes haircutting which always leads to tears. And it looks like we won't be disappointed next Wednesday.
Very exciting.

The Race is On

Alright, if you are afraid of reality TV (I'm not, by the way) you're sure to enjoy "The Amazing Race".
It started it's 10th race this past Sunday night and it is being praised as it's most diverse ever. Muslims, Indo-Americans, Mexican, people with different abilities and beauty queens. What more could you ask for?
And when you compare this diverse cast at "The Amazing Race" with the segregation going on at "Survivor: Cook Island" (where tribes are divided by race this season...ew) "The Amazing Race" looks better and better.
Sunday they travelled to The Forbidden City in China (trivia: This is the first time the first pit stop on "The Amazing Race" has been Asia...!).
Next week's episode looks good...

Sculls and Cross-BONES

Yes, last night was another episode of "Bones". If you remember there was a sneak peek last week that eluded to the fact that this week's episode would be particularly sappy, refering to Dr. Brennan's troubled childhood and stint in foster care.
So I was particularly happy to see that last night did not include tears from any of the characters.
If you missed the actual case that was examined wasn't that exciting, definitely not one for the books. But the activity that happened surrounding the case...very interesting!
One particular event of note is that the feud between Cam and Brennan seems to have subsided. I can say I was a bit worried that we were going to be seeing the stereotypical, catty relationship between the two women (because two bright, intelligent women could never work together without incident!!). Happily, they came to middle ground.
But that wasn't even the most exciting part of last night's episode...!
The most intriguing part of last night's broadcast had to be the budding romance between Jack (pictured above) and Angela. For those of you unfamiliar, Jack is the resident bug/slime/goo expert at the Jeffersonian as well as the Jeffersonian's biggest and wealthiest donor, however this is a secret he wishes to keep from most of his co-workers. And Angela is the reconstruction artist, very wild, very excentric, and fun. Very exciting development. As long as Booth and Brennan don't try to fornicate, I will watch this program.
Sigh.

Under An African Sky

YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S COMING BACK TO LONDON!!!!! YEA!!!!!!!
Yes, yes, it's true, Stephen Lewis (UN Special Envoy for AIDS in Africa) is coming to speak at the John Labatt Centre on December 9th, one day before the International Day for Human rights. Very exciting.
My folks have gotten my mom and I tickets to see the amazing Mr. Lewis on the 9th, and you can bet I'll be first in line to get into the JLC.
All proceeds are going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (check out the link on the right hand side of the page) and are specifically going to help those living with AIDS in Swaziland. Currently the AIDS stats reveal that 43% of people in Swaziland are living with AIDS.
And don't worry, there are tickets still available for the evening!

Petrol-cide?

I just thought this was an interesting graphic.
Enjoy.
Times like these I tell myself I don't have a car because I don't want to contribute to the warming of the Earth.
But I think the real reason is because I have no money. Because let's face it, London Transit definitely leaves something to be desired.

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

Hello Again.
Thought I'd keep you updated. Nothing yet, but I'm still looking. And now that Nancy, Anna and Dina are back in town looking for work as well, the pool is getting smaller and smaller, thanks women. And oh yes, good luck.
I'll keep you posted as to what's going on.
Thinking positive.
Or at the very least, thinking.
The Bare Bones

Yes, yes another episode of "Bones" was aired tonight.
Did anyone catch it? It had an odd Lacey Peterson-esque feel to it, although the end was full of delightful twists.
In case you didn't see it, there was a disappointing element to tonight's episode; Boothe has a kid. No, this is not my normal dislike of kids, this is just my dislike of cheesy, weak plotlines to keep the boring people to watch Bones. My message to Fox Television: We're better off without those weak viewers.
Unfortunately, next week's episode looks like it includes a lot of "emotionality" from Brennan. Sigh.
Happily, though Hodges (a.k.a. Hodge-Podge) had a nice piece in this week's episode.
We'll just have to wait and see next week. And trust me, I'll be here.
P.S. Tonight was the premiere of the third season of Laguna Beach: The Real O.C. I was unimpressed. Mostly I wanted to vomit while watching selfish, immature teens with too much money and a sense of entitlement act pathetic. But yes, I still watched. I will admit that the main reason was so I can connect with Annie. Who has, since her move to University of Guelph, abandoned me (see previous post).
Mother: When you have children, you can't believe the feeling of attachment, love and commitment that is created. You have to have children to know it.
Bones: That's the release of the chemical seratone. It's chemistry, not a miracle.

Abandonment: Part Deux

Today we dropped off Annie at the University of Guelph. She had an amazing amount of stuff (the truck was filled to the brim!). And to our amazement she got one of the best rooms at the oldest residence at U of G.
She has a fireplace in her room. It doesn't work, but it looks fabulous.
And it must be said that I was always joking when I refered to University of Guelph as "Moo U". But it really is built on farmland. While driving through campus I saw horses. Horses.
I couldn't believe how laid back her school is, either. Definitely a good fit for Annie, I think she'll have an excellent time there!
However, Annie's departure leaves me. At home. Alone with my parents.
Good thing I like them.
Way to go Annie!

A: "Seven. One to screw it in, six to figure out how to power it on manure."

Rien

No, I haven't abandoned my blog. Literally nothing is happening to me right now.
I'll deal with this just fine, don't worry. I'm sure I'll be incredibly busy very soon. It's the waiting that is driving me a bit crazy. Or at least annoyed.
I know I should enjoy it, but I feel strange not getting ready for school this September.
Annie leaves on Sunday for Guelph, very exciting. Remember that show "Boston Common"? That was when the little sister goes to college in Boston and her hick of a brother tags along. He doesn't enroll, but has all the fun of a college student. I'm tempted, but afraid Annie would kill me in my sleep.

She's Almost Back!

Alright, tonight was another great, late episode of Bones.
And I'm happy to say that Bones (at left) is almost back. I was a little disappointed at last week's premiere about Bones' weepy demeanor.
But this week she was on a comeback (she only cried twice).
And they got a new addition to the cast: Dr. Camille "Cam" Saroyan. The new head of the Jeffersonian. And she's a strong, confident woman! Yea! Three on one show, must be a Hollywood record. Please don't let them hate each other!
The only hitch is that it seems that Cam was once involved with Booth in some way or another. Hmmm...I only hope this is not inserted to make Bones jealous of this "relationship". I enjoy the fact that there's no romance between Bones and Booth. It's would be so cliched.
This week's storyline, very good. Besides that the "Bones' parents'" storyline progressed a bit. Seems Bones' father is alive and called out a hit on the man that killed his wife, he doesn't want his daughter to find him...interesting. Very nice to see this incoporated into the larger story.
And next week looks very good.
Need not post, I know I'm a loser for posting about Bones.

Georgia: On My Mind

It's here! Today was the start of getting ready for the School of the Americas/WHINSEC Protest!
Woohoo!
We'll be leaving November 16th and return the following Monday, Novemeber 20th.
We're looking for cash, so if you've got an extra $150 lying around you could send a person down to Georgia!
Good times had by all, while being part of a larger movement! Yippee!
For those of you wondering, I decided not to attend the WHINSEC tour last year after my visit. For the past two years I've gone on the tour of the Fort Benning facilities. Being frisked, intimidated, lied and patronized to is exhausting.
However, I may have a change of heart when it comes time in November. And I have a military man to thank for my reconsideration.
When Gen. Romeo Dallaire was in London two weeks ago someone asked the question of what do you say to a student who is distraught and essentially cynical about a social justice issue they believe is pointless. Gen. Dallaire responded by explaining that people often become disheartened by not seeing change. And that this reaction is unnecessary.
"Why do we always expect there to be change after a few years? Come back after 10 years and then expect a change. Fundamental change takes time and hard work. Getting upset or cynical after a few attempts does nothing for the cause. Be patient, keep working, and don't loose sight of the goal."
True, it's bizarre to be taking advice on this subject from a person involved (and devoted) to the Armed Forces. But if I forget about that part, and just listen to his message, it gets less hazy.
So maybe I'll go and see our friend, Lee Riles (PR for SOA) in November. Even though he called us "agressive Canadians" last year. Either way, I promise myself that this year at the protest I will be more optimistic and driven to remember that closing the SOA is imperative, but that it requires immense work, from everyone.

Abandonment: Part Un

Today, Maggie left to go back to Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She seemed rather excited.
When we got back in the car to drive back to from the airport no one said anything. Then Annie piped up, "Silence...ahh.".
She was so right. If you haven't met Maggie or haven't seen her in a while you might forget how loud she can be.
I blame it on birth order and a bizarre need for her to be noticed constantly. I wonder what she would be like if she wasn't majoring in Theatre *shudder*.
In all seriousness, I do miss Mags. She's the only person I know that can make me laugh one minute, and make me want to wring her neck the next. That's quite a skill.
I won't be seeing Maggie until December, when she comes back for Winter break, so I hope she enjoys herself and has a great final year.
I will be making my own trip to Wolfville in May for her convocation.
I want a good convocation speech from the honourary doctorate person. Apparently they always give the honourary doctorate to a member of the Irving family. That's crap. There must be another Canadian (not from the Irving Oil fortune) that is honourable enough to be recognized?
Maybe we should give our own suggestions for keynotes?
For a Theatre convocation we do have a ton of possibilities.
Ben Mulroney, anyone? Did you know that smarmy Ben has a law degree?

Why I Hate Spoons

Ok, I know my aversion to spoons might be a little odd. But it's true. I'm sure that you're all surprised to learn this important piece of information about me. It is incredible when you think about it.
I don't know when my hatred to spoons began. I wasn't attacked by a spoon, and I wasn't born with a silver one in my mouth. All I know is that I find them annoying. The only time a person should use a spoon is for soups or cold cereals. Not stews, not for oatmeal.
I will always choose a fork over a spoon. I'd rather eat anything with a fork and have a bit of a harder time than with a spoon.
I think part of it is the balancing you have to do with a spoon. Or maybe it's the stabbing motion with the fork that I like (that's a scary thought).
So please be advised that if I'm ever using spoon, it's against my own will.
It should also be noted that I not only hate spoons, but chopsticks annoy the hell out of me. But I think that's only because I have no idea how to use them (and, by the way, I don't want to).

Happy Birthday Dad!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!
Yes, it's my dad's 51st birthday (OWN IT!), and he's having his desired quiet day at home. Starting with the Turkish Grand Prix at 7:30AM (we'll ignore the 91 years of genocide denial), followed by the red meat extravaganza (see previous post) with a brunch of steak and eggs. Something must be said for the combination of red meat and eggs. Protein overload, I may never recover.
Some of you know my dad, but if you don't I'll fill you in using the astrological information so you can get a better idea of who he is.
First, he was born on Saturday, August 27th at 6PM, 1955 (Year of the Goat). So this means he's:
51 years old
2,662 weeks old
447,086 hours old
OR...
1,609,511,257 seconds old
So, he's a Virgo. Which means he's practical (very), intellectual, diligent (almost annoyingly so), hates sloppy workers (this is VERY true), and modest.
The top song in 1955 was "Ain't That A Shame" by Fats Domino (how appropriate).
You can boil 5.94 ounces of water with the heat from 52 candles.
And...you share a birthday with Mother Theresa.
If you know my dad even a little, you'd know that this fits him to a T.
Although, if you do know my dad he would say that astrology is a bunch of horsecrap.
But that's why I love him. My big, nerdy dad.
Happy Birthday!
