Idiots in Georgia Declare: We Have A Solution for Prostitution!

Prostitution is a touchy subject for anyone. But I think we can agree on a few items about the profession:

1. It is one of the most dangerous professions for women (and men) to be involved in

2. There is a very high demand for sex trade workers

3. The general public tends to vilify the sex trade worker, and forget that there was another party involved in the transaction

4. There are some women who work in the sex trade who lead productive, fulfilling and, yes surprisingly, healthy lives

5. Prostitution and the sex trade are never going away. Ever.

Now that we've decided on these five truths, let us continue to our irritating journey with this newest article that I stumbled across, "Georgia Man Offers Hookers Free Bus Tickets" http://www.wsbtv.com/news/19479789/detail.html.

The gist of the article is that local business owners (specifically a motor company) don't want prostitutes hanging around their upscale lot, getting customers.

Their solution to the problem is...wait for it...bus tickets out of town! Yes! This is awesome! Why aren't we all doing this? Oh, wait I know why we aren't all doing this- because it's a freaking ridiculous notion. THAT'S WHY.

Honest to god- who the hell thinks of this shit? Buy a few Greyhound bus tickets to Las Vegas where they think prostitution is legal and they get back their Mayberry-esque community to sell over priced cars and motor oil? Near the end of the article there are some doubts raised. Most vocally that these ladies of the night will return right back from where they came from.

I have to rant a little about the community involvement when it comes to prostitution and the sex trade in general. It's incredibly irritating to me when people get upset about prostitution and we never look at what the community's responsibility is. It's as if the majority of people believe that women in the sex trade are conniving together to figure out the best way to bring down the community. Yes, those evil women, they have nothing better to do but figure out how they can make real estate worth plummet and become public targets of disgust. Damn them!

However, let's just pretend that these women who are outside of this business are not trying to disrupt these ignorant a-holes' business, but instead trying to, um, stay alive? Maybe when they are out waiting to be picked up by the men of this community their perception of control is a bit different than these idiots who want to ship them to Las Vegas.

And while we're on the subject I have an alternative option for these business owners. Instead of shipping the prostitutes out, maybe we can ship out these disgusting guys (yes, their guys, and I'm not afraid to type it) out the state. How about that? What do you think about THAT? DOESN'T THAT MAKE MORE SENSE? GET RID OF THE MYSOGINISTIC MEN? GOD!

That being said, this community sounds like a frickin' nightmare, and if I was offered a Greyhound ticket to Las Vegas, I would totally take it.

Sidenote: Prostitution is illegal in Clarke County (where Las Vegas is), the morons buying the tickets are better off shipping people to Reno. Get your effing facts straight before you start doing stupid publicity stunts, it does nothing for your credibility of your half-baked ideas.

My Musings...

It's been a while, but I've had a lot of time to think.

I'm having a hard time finding a venue to disperse all of my recently acquired knowledge that I have gathered through teaching, driving, genocide education and the like.

So in no order of importance, these are the things that I have learned over the past couple of weeks:

1. If you hold a sign at Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport that says "Genocide Summer Institute" you get one of the following:
a) strange looks
b) strangers coming up and talking to you
c) people asking, "You aren't promoting it are you?" and me saying, "Ha ha! (under my breath) That's original, you bastard."
d) deniers of the Armenian genocide challenging you
e) laughs (probably one of the most concerning...)

2. If there is a propane blast in Toronto that impedes traffic, you can bet your bottom dollar that Jessie will get caught in it.

3. If you're a radio DJ and you're telling listeners about a current event (you know, like a propane blast) get all the information first. And try not to say things like, "I don't know what's going on, but if you're in this area, get out now." Because when you do, Jessie's arrhythmia kicks in hard core.

4. Parking in the GTA is a bitch.

5. The beds at U of T are designed to ensure that you get the worst sleep possible, thus ensuring the perpetuation of snarly inhabitants of The Big Smoke.

6. David Emerson is a complete douche bag. Riddle me this asswipe: If the Olympics aren't political please explain to me what you, the Minister of FOREIGN AFFAIRS, attended the opening ceremonies??? Please explain that to me, because I'm at a loss why a POLITICIAN who is at a SPORTING EVENT and talks about CANADA-CHINA RELATIONS while he's there on official OLYMPIC business would say that.

7. Irwin Cotler is a Canadian hero, who also happens to have the softest hands of any person I've ever shaken hands with.

8. The book "Eat, Pray, Love" makes me want to vomit.

9. I have an unnatural addiction to Coldplay's newest album.

10. I think that even ugly kids are still cool, China.

"Pretty" People Falling Down

Ok, so I love model shows. America's Next Top Model, Canada's Next Top Model...very, very funny.

I think the reason I love these shows is the curing of hubris that assaults the "beautiful" girls...their self-doubt and shaky self esteem that they discover for the first time ever, on camera.

I know it's cruel, but it's reassuring since they always look so fucking sure of themselves. It's good to bring them down a few pegs.

As well, I think it's a bit retarded that we reward people for being genetic freaks. The one major reason I keep watching ANTM is because their models have yet to actual become top models...just a bunch of cute girls who get to watch their dreams disappear.

Ohhh, and "8th and Ocean". If you ever see that on TV, you must catch it. It's a show about a bunch of manic, low self esteem, young, stupid models living in an apartment complex together in Miami that constantly whine, "But in Idaho I was the prettiest girl in school!". Hahaha.

It's every average looking person's revenge. Nothing destroys their self esteem more than meeting another pretty person.

So enjoy this clip from Fashion Television. It's a little hard to take when you hear Jeanne Beker talk about how "...it's not so easy being a model."

Bullshit. It really is JUST walking.

Do you have to use your brain during modeling? No matter how much I love Tyra, she's not going to convince me it takes a lot of grey matter to "negotiate" the catwalk. If wisdom equals better modelling then 35 year old models would be the norm.

Anyway, to be honest I'm tired of the unfriendly model. I don't want you grinning like an idiot, just crack a smile now and then. That's the best part of the fall, when they actually morph from moving coat rack to actual human being.

5 DAYS TO GO!

FACT #5
Jon Stewart has been in many movies you may have heard of; Half Baked, Big Daddy, Playing By Heart...
But did you know there are several movies Stewart was cut out of?
Almost Romantic: (a movie made with Janeane Garofalo, would have probably been the most sarcastic movie ever made)
Bird Meets Girl: (Jon was slated to play the mascot for the Baltimore Orioles who falls in love with a female sports reporter...maybe it's good that this was never released)
The First Wives Club: (apparently his ass made an appearance in the previews, but after focus groups saw the film they were unanimous in their hatred of Stewart in the movie)
Wavelength: (This was a movie almost made where Stewart played a sarcastic, bitter MTV jock who rips the head of the network another hole and gets transfered to a small radio station in Jamaica)
and...
A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (Stewart made a cameo and it was cut out, apparently John Cusack played an evil banker who tried to bring down David Arquette's music store...whatever. Now muppets are on my shit list)
"Everytime someone says 'Happy Holidays', an angel gets AIDS."
